Would anyone consider purchasing one of these for $6,800? 3 wheeler. I would find it enticing because MPG turns me on....but i'd be weary of reliability/maintenance issues. I'd be surprised if the price tag is still $6,800 by the time they reach production.

Sounds like the prototypes use old Geo Metro components but that the engine in the finished product will be designed for the Elio by IAV who works with Mini and Fiat.

The [used] Geo Metro itself sells for a couple of thousands and gets around 50MPG.
The Elio seems to get about the same MPG as a motorcycle and carries about as much.
I'd go with the used Metro.
