Can you just have a freesale? You can advertise a freesale in the yardsale section of the paper (that's how it's done here anyway) and then put everything you want to throw out on the lawn. The more specific you are about the items, the more people you'll get. In my experience, people--particularly yardsale regulars--will take anything if it's free.

Geez, wood scrap is the sort of thing I'd pick up if it's close by... either gets turned into projects or becomes heating fuel.
