I didn't know what the Healthy Life Expectancy statistic was and had to google it.
Healthy life expectancy (HLE) is a population health measure that combines mortality data with morbidity or health status data to estimate expected years of life in good health for persons at a given age.
Sometimes I feel like we are extending life expectancy but are shortening the number of healthy years. I would think HLE would be far more useful than simple life expectancy.

Good article!

@Ego - The HLE discussion is quite evolved these days. Mainly because while life expectancy has gone up, HLE has not. Google around.

In fairness 'retirement is wasted on the old' is a great catchphrase!

It particually appealed to me as I'm writing this from Quillan in the south of France on my most outrageous housesit yet. Almost 5 weeks for free in this little bit of paradise....
