Anyone read the book Off the Grid by Nick Rosen? I saw this on Huffington Post today and thought I'd pass it along:

Living Off Grid is becoming more and more feasable.

LED lighting takes so little power and SunDanzer makes Fridges and Freezers (chest style...either 5 cu.ft. or 8 cu.ft.) that use Danforth Marine Compressors that run on anything from 12 to 24 volts and can be plugged directly into a Solar Panel....the Fridge requires One (125 Watt as I recall) and the Freezer Two...slick.

The range of 12 volt appliances is amazing....12 volt Solar powered well pumps...pretty much all the basics.

There is even a 12 volt A/C system for boats that could be adapted to an RV pretty easy from what I've seen...

    Heat....12 volt Electric Blanket.

"Living Off Grid is becoming more and more feasible."

It's totally feasible, I've been doing so for 13 years. I even built my last RV off grid.

We use mostly mains appliances, microwave/computer/bread maker etc but lighting is 24v, cooking gas, heating diesel.
