The sad thing is that banks can be real stalwarts of a community or city, but the current environment is outrageous.
Related to this subject. There is a good book I just finished on BoA's buyout of Merrill Lynch. The author really does a great job of finding out how this all happened. Fascinating look at the cultures of both companies and a few other companies that are tangently related to the whole process (Goldman Sachs, NYSE, Treasury, etc.).
