    Sometime within the next three weeks (before 12/21). I'd prefer it if someone else took charge of it and autocratically picked a time and place. Keep in mind that while most seem to have cars, not everybody does.

    (I have a lot going on right now, but I'll do it if nobody else does.)

    I'll be driving back from a work gig in Santa Cruz on Friday, 12/9; so that'd be a good day for a mid-day meetup in the Bay Area for me. I'll leave the location to those travelling without cars.

    I would be happy to host at my place in Berkeley. You would get a chance to see what close-to-zero living expenses looks like - a creative remodel - And be served coffee with home roasted beans. Maybe a ten minute walk from BART station.

    Hello!
    Since I'm brand new to the ERE forum, I just wanted to drop a quick note to say 'Hi' and RSVP for the meetup on Friday. I'll be joined by my boyfriend Dave who has already been in contact with Jacob.

    Looking forward to meeting all of you who come to the meetup on Friday!

    Finally, fast & reliable high-speed internet on the road! I plan on being at the Berkeley mmet-up for certain. Really looking forward to the gathering. Thanks Jane.

    @Surio
    Hilarious spoof. But haven't you heard the old saw about the lawyer who moved to a town without one. He made no money and was on the verge of starving. Then a second lawyer moved to town and within a year they were both rich. So you see, we need a worthy opponent to begin the dance.

    I wish I could make it, but I think I'll pass on this one, it's likely an unpleasant drive for me that time of day from work, and I've been feeling rather exhausted by various things in life lately.

    @Maus,
    I knew that dragoncar and yourself have a terrific sense of humour and would smile at the gentle ribbing. :-) Otherwise I would not have taken the liberty! Glad you (both?) liked it.

    Actually, jokes aside, I have developed tremendous respect for many of you guys and would love to meet up with some of you all IRL (some day!).

    Enjoy the party and have an extra fruit juice in my name! ;-)

    LOL sadly I cannot make it... other obligations. Really wanted to meet Maus and of course Jacob and everyone else, but I always thought Maus might have some special insights. Alas, no testosterone explosions. Maybe I'll make it to Chicago some day... I have a gazillion frequent flyer miles right now.

    Now please look at this thread on another meetup.

    So, even if not that elaborate as that thread, how about some detailed write up on how Jacob's farewell party went? ;-)

    Well, no testosterone-fueled mayhem and I doubt I was especially insightful; but it was an excellent evening. Jane prepared some very tasty grub and was a most gracious hostess. And despite the prevalence of INTJ personalities, the conversation was anything but laconic. Jacob shared a good deal on his new job, and his and DW's plans for Chicago. Topics included the ins and outs of RV living, nutrition, and some very philosophical strivings about daily life in the state of "retirement." I thoroughly enjoyed myself. As the rare extrovert in the gathering, I hope I didn't drain everyones' batteries too drastically.

    Many expressed a hope of a future meet-up even if Jacob should be present only in spirit. I cannot recommend these IRL encounters enthusiastically enough. They really do matter.

    Envious!

    @Maus,
    Thanks for taking the time and jotting.

    W00T! *claps*

    Personally, I think we are all extroverts provided "the topic at hand" takes our fancy.... and that is where we differ from the mainstream pronounced "extrovert" definition. I used to space out in 25 seconds flat in conversations involving Desperate Housewives or even 20-20 cricket matches -- leading to all sorts of grief and heartaches.

    But if you came and talked to me about any of the following, "Jacob's new job and his DW's plans for Chicago, nutrition (and health), some very philosophical strivings about daily life in the state of 'retirement', how the world works? ", then I would have been like this:
    German Shepherd puppy's normal pose!

    And if that wasn't enough, with the kind of interesting company we all keep on the forums, I would have talked the hind leg off a donkey for the whole evening all by myself!

    Next time get a grown up board games (aka German board games) such as Dominion (competitive) or Pandemic (cooperative) to these meetups and the proceedings would liven up even more......
