Hi everyone! I recently discovered that there are several other Texans here and I'm hoping we can coordinate a meetup. I'm in South Austin, so here are my suggestions:

    http://www.yelp.com/biz/summermoon-coffee-bar-austin
This is sort of a boring suggestion, but their coffee sounds good.

If we are feeling more adventurous, this place is really close to my house and I can ask the guy if it's okay for us to meet there:

I am flexible on dates/location/time, but thought I'd throw these out there and see if it works for anyone.

I pedicab, so I'm at work from 8am-3am Tues-Sat. I could make a Sunday afternoon meetup, but otherwise I am probably working or sleeping.

That weekend (Oct. 1-2) generally works for me, but I'm slated to run a 10K on Sunday morning. Any other time will be great and I'm willing to meet anywhere.

It sounds like Sunday October 2nd in the evening is the consensus right now.

I live on the East Side and am car-free so my vote is for somewhere not too far from downtown. Though, I suppose I could get on the bus for a special occasion. :)

I think the cathedral of junk is closed...

I'm on the East Side and bike, too. Weather should be better for an outside meetup by then. Maybe Flipnotics? I love their deck, but it's not free.

There aren't too many free places unless you want to meet up to at Food Not Bombs. I ate my last two Valentine's dinners with my boyfriend and the homebums.

Also in. Also may bring the SO if he doesn't think me too dorky for going to a retirement blog meetup.

I'd love to come, but not sure at the moment. Is anyone from San Antonio and would like to meet up as well?

My wife and I live San Antonio, we may be making the trip to Austin, provided my work schedule will allow it. Will know more in a couple weeks.

I'm glad so many people are planning to attend. I spelled the location wrong above - it's "Flipnotics".

I stopped by there earlier this week and noticed they have signs that say "absolutely no lingering or loitering" so I sent them an email to make sure it was okay to have a meetup there. Stay tuned.

I just moved from Texas but it just so happens that I will be in the Austin area around that time so I will stop by. I would love to meet you all.

Is anyone up for meeting at a park (preferably one accessible by bus)? As I mentioned before, Flipnotics has signs that say "no lingering" and they have not responded to my inquiry. Also, it might make sense to meet somewhere where people won't be pressured to spend money.

    Suggestions? :)

Park is fine with me. Zilker seems like the obvious choice, but I'm up for any of them.

@rachels I'm new to Austin and haven't made it to Zilker yet. Can you describe where we would meet that would be easy to find?

    Thanks!

Actually, Zilker is pretty huge and I can't think of an easy to describe place (other than Barton Springs, which costs money and is crowded). There used to be an area with lots of picnic tables off Robert E Lee Dr., but they ripped them out (probably in a vain attempt to get the bums to relocate). Other Austinites, help us out.

The other really easy park is Republic Square at 4th and Guadalupe. It's where they have the farmer's market and movies in the park. It's small, but at least not possible to get lost in. They used to have tables and chairs, not sure if they still do.

Another possibility is the roof of Whole Foods. We used to have vegan meetups up there and there are lots of tables and chairs and no one to complain you've sat up there too long. Plus, it's not like everyone has to buy something. I will eat enough vegan ice cream sandwiches for us all.

I think Zilker can be confusing even if we chose to meet at the entrance to the Barton Springs pool. I'm not sure there is a good place to hangout.

I would suggest the Austin Java Company location on Barton Springs (near Flipnotics). It's bigger and the times I've been there, I have never been hassled for hanging out. My guess is that enough of us will purchase coffee that it won't be an issue if some don't.

    Okay...Austin Java sounds good.

Whole Foods roof sounds awesome and I think we should do that if we have a second meeting.

Work rears its ugly head. It turns out I have a mandatory meeting on Sunday. Don't think I'll be making it to the meetup. Have a good time!

I'll be there tomorrow if other folks are still coming. I have short brown hair and molecules tattooed on one arm if that makes it easier to find each other.

I'll be there, too. I have long brown hair and molecules tattooed on zero arms. I'll have a book. And a budget. And maybe some mending. My t-shirt has weird fifties-modern elephants all over the front that look like coffee mugs.

There should be at least 5 of us :) I have long black hair with straight across bangs. I think I'll put a little "ERE" index card on the table when I get there. See you guys soon!

10 people (including myself) showed up for the meetup. The thing that greatly amuses me: our bill was $18.00. I have never looked at a bill for a large group of people and sighed with relief before.

Thanks everyone for coming out! I will be harassing you via email very soon ^__^

Let's give Monsternaka a round of e-applause for coordinating the meetup for today. I had fun! I'm glad I got to meet y'all!

@Gordy50: I agree with that Monsternaka did a great job in getting us together today. It was pretty balanced across ages and gender in my opinion which I though made the conversation very interesting. Even though I'm looking at ER rather than ERE, I found it helpful to hear the different goals and strategies people are pursuing.

@Monsternaka: Thanks again for taking the time and initiative!!
