Re: Single pair of shoes

Flip flops are no use if you get started on.
Are you going to be able to kick back, or run away?

Re: EVERYTHING Too $$$ Now

The burger question... Is the burger meal at $30 going to be 3 times better than a $10 meal in BK ? I doubt it. Why is the OP even questioning this? Theres a fancy burger joint near me... Five Gays .... it was rammed with people for 6 months ... now daily its got 1 - 2 people in it. The fact that pe...

Re: Losing your FI to the markets

@bridgenbetween I am curious as to your timeframe to FI. What kind of market downtowns have you been through before? I am having a had time figuring out if you have an asset allocation issue? anxiety issue? Or just a first timer at market conditions that downturns did just recover quickly? It took ...

Re: Losing your FI to the markets

I am not exposed to any one company dividend.
I have ETFs that cover global companies.
My thinking is... if things get bad, and companies start cutting dividends wholesale, there will be bigger problems out there.
I am becoming a prepper in my spare time.. fully stocked and tooled up.

Losing your FI to the markets

This has been worrying me recently. I fired over 2 years ago, everything has been going well. Now I am feeling under attack from 2 sides... Increased cost of living, weak markets affecting my equities / bond holdings. It seems the lower cost food items I buy, they are increasing by double digit %. I...

Stealth van camping

Hi, Anyone know of websites that give people advice on places to park a camper van, without being moved on or hassled by people? I have noticed foreign reg. vans parked up, stealth camper vans. I notice these vehicles, but they are not obvious. Usually have a silver foil barrier pushed upside front ...

Try 33% capital gains on practically the full gain....with dividends taxed at marginal income tax rate...!
41% tax on dividends from ETFs.
Regardless of your total income,
For Ireland residents.
Try doing FIRE with this number.

Re: Dealing with abuse at work

Am I being too sensitive?
I am a 50 year old man in a corporate role, ready to FIRE, and this is really getting to me.

My manager talks to me like this;

"here we go go again... "

"i thought I told you... "

"you are doing it again... "

Re: Dealing with abuse at work

Update is, I started reading Eckhart Tolle, a New Earth.
I am practicing, not reacting with my ego.
I am aiming to quit work in July, in final stages of accumulation, so I will bear this situation until then.
Going to leave quietly.

Dealing with abuse at work

I am getting a lot of slagging, personal abuse from a guy at work. Everytime he sees me taking my bagged lunch out, he launches into a loud comedy routine directed at me. "Theres Mr X with his packed lunch again. How much did you save today, huh?" "I hear theres a sale on bread and mi...

Re: How to deal with performance ratings in workplace

Thanks for the above feedback. I am depressed in the job. One friend told me "roll with it". I dont roll with anything. I deal with life problems head on. I realise lifes too short to be enduring misery in the workplace. I dont respond well to threats either. I cant do anymore, or better t...

Re: How to deal with performance ratings in workplace

Thanks for all the feedback.

I have already made a huge effort in last past half of the year, and they still rated me below.
I am thinking its time to go. Have about 600K put away, and reckon my living expenses are 20K.

How to deal with performance ratings in workplace

I have recently been rated "below expectations" in my job. I am convince they fabricated reasons to justify the rating. Its quite common in large organisations. Now I am depressed, and cant see myself sticking the job for much longer. I am nearly FI status, but I could do with a few months...
