Re: stayhigh's journal

Good morning people on the internet! That's silly, I know 😉 That's almost five years of being non productive asset for world's economy! Time flies! Lot's of changes again, found a new place for myself and my growing family, this time something permanent. I managed to get it for less than market valu...

Re: stayhigh's journal

That will be two years in two weeks time since FIRE! I got few curious indirect questions how I pay my bills, haha. Life is crazy as never before. I bought some rental properties, two tiny apartments few blocks away from city center and refubrished them all by myself to do some real work and get 8% ...

Re: stayhigh's journal

That's over half a year already! During this time I managed to climb Great Wall of China, hike in Himalayas, get married and did few other things. I'm doing strong, but still have some "what if" thoughts from time to time, but there is nothing to worry about. Everything can be fixed. That ...

Re: Cash or Credit?

I pay cash for almost everything. No specific reason, just like the feeling when I fold thick wallet like sandwich. Recently discovered contactless payments and I like them as well for being superquick.

Re: stayhigh's journal

I never prebooked any hotels, as it kills flexibility and freedom. And by using hotels you miss one of the best part of trips like this: https://abload.de/img/bbrkx53.jpg https://abload.de/img/aa3vza8.jpg This month I did four multiday hikes, to use last bits of british summer (if 5'C nighttime and ...

Re: Rapidly Changing Automotive Technology

Let's face it. When this: http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/askville/3138086_12048890_mywrite/imp08heatercontrol1.jpg is replaced by this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFk8Pc-vakw I call it regres, not "rapidly changing technology". It's less user friendly, slower, more dangero...

Re: How much time does dishwasher save you?

Considering initial cost, space taken, extra electricity, dishwasher tabs etc it's not efficient solution for me. What I don't like the most, it's not kind of "put it in, press the button and forget it" machine, so it's a big NO for me. Doing dishes straight away or putting them into the w...

Re: The dangers of low expense lifestyles?

What is the worst thing that can happen to me? I will run out of money? Well, most 9to5ers have no money too. I'm gonna die? Everybody gonna die one day! But before all that bad things happen, I'd like to enjoy my life as much as possible - not spending my best time locked inside the office. Of cou...

Re: The dangers of low expense lifestyles?

I know a healthy person who came down with a large brain tumor in their twenties, a cyclist who has brain damage from being hit by a car (he now has cognitive issues and memory loss, and is essentially disabled), a family whose child developed a serious chronic illness, etc. I even know a young guy...

Stayhigh, you cheap bastard, tell me how do you manage to keep your grocery cost so low without eating instant noodles and other crap all the time? https://abload.de/img/photo1790wijb1.jpg 1.5lbs of fresh vegetables for .3$, and some fresh crispy fruits, not too bad for day worth of food, isn't it?...

Re: First paycheck - You won't BELIEVE the taxes! Tax optimization?

I'd love to have the social services and public health care options that are available in Europe ;) Grass have same colour. Public health care is not free, it's deducted from salary every month so you have no choice but to pay it. And once you are out of work, you have to pay for it by yourself. So...

Hey guys, brexit is just exiting the EU, which is political thing, not EEA (European Economic Area). Look at Switzerland or Norway, they are both doing great without EU membership, and you can live and work there without any issues.

Re: Buddha’s guidelines on how to look after your money --> Savings Rate

I'd translate emergencies into cash and businesses into stocks, so 1/3 cash/tbills/bonds and 2/3 diversified stocks. And 75% savings rate. Sounds like a decent plan ;)
