Re: Ego's Journal
Nice! i would either skip the sections from Lagos to Sagres by taking the bus, or if you decide to walk them, do the first two in a single day, they are both short and not that exciting. Once you get to Sagres and head north it gets pretty incredible. There is quite a bit of walking on soft sand, so...

Re: On-the-go Meal Prep Kit for maximizing grocery stores as an alternative to fastfood/restaurants?
Ever since late 2019 we've been traveling around with light weight synthetic utensils from REI, chop sticks, aluminum straws, washable cloth napkin and salt/pepper packets.......the amount of plastic waste this has saved is incredible. It's also made doing what you're describing much more pleasurabl...

Beautiful pictures! You make me want to go back to Vietnam so badly! (we will in Feb) Now that you're not actively earning income, try not to stress the ups and downs of the market. It's a rollercoaster and if you can accept that, it's all going to work out. For example, in the first 9 days of May w...

Ah Lisbon!! Enjoy your travels. We hiked the Fishermans Trail from north to south last year in May and it was PERFECT weather + lots of beautiful flowers. The sections from Porto Covo to Sagres were the best.....highly recommend it if you're into that sort of thing. It was quite empty and the villag...

Re: Expense Ratio and Annual Return
If you're comparing 10 different SP500 index funds, they will all have nearly identical returns, ditto for funds/ETF's that track other index's. You biggest decision is probably more around what you want your asset allocation/investment portfolio to look like at a macro level. This will be based on ...

Small correction, the Trinity Study assumes a 30 year draw down. It also assumes 1% annual fee on portfolio and a 50/50 allocation (where more comprehensive and thorough literature shows a much improved success rate with higher ie 60/40-80/20 allocations). At 42 years old and still working, I would ...

@mF, interesting observation regarding the big brand bike shops. Trek did this on Long Island in NY and I hate to say it, has a MUCH better reputation for quality of service AND turn around times vs. the independent LBS's in the area. The inventory arrivals being delayed from late 2020/through 2021 ...

Re: Ego's Journal
This is something very specific to the bike industry right now. It's imploding, with several direct to consumer brands going kaput over the past 6-12 months. When I was bike shopping in December 2021 I was lucky enough to pay MSRP for a $4k Trek MTB, dealers just couldn't get enough stock to meet su...

April Update Celebrated 11 months since leaving paid employment yesterday. Things are going better than I could have imagined, and there's definitely truth to what is being discussed in some of the other recent threads that money is like water after a certain point, you just don't need more or thin...

Re: Nomadic-ERE Year 5 - Wanderlust Prevails
No alarm required for us, I typically wake up around 5-6 AM and am in bed before 9 PM. Being active during the days makes going to bed fairly early easy.....especially in places in the world closer to the equator where the days are relatively stable in length. It does get a bit more difficult and we...

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the downsides of this lifestyle. I agree with many of the points, though some of these issues can be mitigated with some experience and planning :) One thought that came to mind as I finished reading your update....you went through TWO enormous transitions simu...

Greetings from Italy! We arrived a couple of days ago, after a quick shower/nap near the airport in Rome we took the train down to Gaeta where we've been for the past two days. It's a magical seaside village of ~20k people that has fairly prominent (~1,500M) mountains seemingly rising from the sea. ...

Super cool that you got to meet Pete, thank you for sharing your experiences. I've been intrigued by the Longmont HQ for quite some time, on paper it makes a lot of sense. The sheer number of people in the FIRE community that Pete's presence in Longmont drew from all over the USA is quite impressive...

DW and I pay for two annual subscriptions between the two of us, one of which is Spotify Premium. Worth every penny as I listen to a lot of music and it's been great for discovery of new artists based on stuff I like.

Re: Portable washing experiments
As a full time nomad traveling the world with 7kg of luggage, I do quite a bit of sink/shower laundry. Here in SE Asia where it's hot, preferred method is to strip down in the shower after an activity while the clothes are already sweaty and wet and stomp on them while doing normal shower business, ...
