Re: disk_poets road towards semi-ERE

Welcome!

When you mentions both baking and getting used items, it reminds me of baking machines. Baking machines are a prime example of what people buy and stop using. If you want, you can probably get a used one for free or for a very low price.

Do you enjoy more spare time and less responsibilities? I guess most people can enjoy that in the short term, and some also longterm.

Re: FI in Sweden

August was another low cost month. Hard to spend much money in this pandemic. I have been eating out some at the local pizzeria and bought some quite expensive beers for use at home, which increased my food cost a bit higher than normal. I use less diesel in my car than normal, but this month I paid...

Re: Apple v. PC...Desktop v. Laptop

LibreOffice is a good replacement for Microsoft Office for basic tasks. It doesn't have all of the features of the current Word or Excel though. It feels like a version from 10 years ago, which is fine for me. I Yeah, I also get that "old" feeling from most free (libre) software. Microsof...

We can start with the change of status now compared to for 10 years ago. Has it improved or become worse? + I got the impression that Linux works better now and some of the free software has improved. + Google docs and other webservices make it easy to make most stuff independent of operating system...

Re: Apple v. PC...Desktop v. Laptop

What do you think about the status today of free software compared to proprietary software? Tracking and proprietary software seem to totally dominate IOT, mobile, tablets, cashless payments etc. Is it even worth trying to avoid being tracked and using non-free software? Richard Stallman seem to be ...

I think it can be relevant to include mortgage debt and house value in net worth. It may affect the diversification and total risk level to a large extent.

Do you think that online poker will be doomed as an income stream in the long run due to cheating? It would be possible to make a system that avoids all detection. Yes, it is good to have rules that forces you to not react on impulses. I have been thinking. I am concerned about that if many think that a certain type of gold investment is better than other ways, that it will be overvalued. The problem with gold itself is that the value of all gold in the world ...

Yes, but my investment rules forbid change until Jan 2023. I am considering stocks in silver mining companies (5%) or physical gold (10-30%). Silver is more aggressive than gold, and mining more aggressive than metal. Silver mining company stocks may give a gigantic payoff or total crash. Supposedly...

Perhaps it would be good to write a list of rules for 95% of the investments. Removes the emotions, just follow the rules. Including rules about when and how rules can be changed. Use 5% in a separate account as play money with no rules. Compare to results after a significant time, like every 5 years.
