Re: Journal From A Dane

Hi! Nice dad you have:) Does he or anyone else in the family have any expectations as to what to do with the vacation home? I'm pretty sure that if I found myself in the same scenario, there would be expectations from family that I maintain it and offer it as a guesthouse. Have you done the math on ...

Re: Moving Out

Felipe, may I ask how old you are?

I'm curious to see your actual expenses after doing this for a while. I'm also curious about what you will pack.

I would expect wifi to be very available in cities, but hard to find (for free) in villages.

Go see with your own eyes how people are coping in shittyer places on earth. See it, smell it, touch it. Changing perspective can sometimes help finding purpose.

@bryan: Very few have heard of it because as far as I know they only sell it in Norway and Sweden. @fiby41: You could say its unhygienic because of the way it looks, the tobacco smell and the (relatively minor) health effects. But it kills bacteria in the mouth and prevents holes in the teeth. Snus ...

Stahlmann doesn't seem like he comes from the USA, but the responses sure do.

In my experience, level of "employee entitlement" varies between countries/cultures.

Re: Thought Experiment/Question

Going through the list below, I see myself buying more time and health. I would likely retire within 2 years and use the time before that to figure out what to do with all the extra time. Some ideas: - Hire a part time maid for house chores - Upgrade my home to one with garden space - Upgrade my eat...

Re: Avoiding unsafe water when traveling?

From my travelling in Africa:

- Expect stomach issues from time to time
- Always carry tissue paper in bag in case of emergency
- Carry antibac for hand washing and stay clean
- Bottled water only
- No raw foods

May finances - 2nd disaster this year I've compressed money spent on holiday in June into the May month, making it easier for future references of holiday spending. Even if I didn't, the financial summary would still look horrible. Rent 4 500,00 Adjustment rent 707,11 Internet 200,00 Electricity 68...

Re: journal of wood

I read the journals of other people on here and realize I'm pretty much a fuckup if measured by standards often used in this forum. But what can one do but to keep trying. Atleast I'm fairly happy and feel lucky in general. It could be worse. I'm back from my holiday in Kenya. I failed to quit snus ...

Summer holiday I will be travelling to Kenya on Saturday for a 4 week stay. The tickets were purchased before the breakup so I'm flying together with the ex. Apart from the flights I won't be spending time with her. I'm really excited to see the land I've purchased and meet business people there in...

Re: Coffee consumption questions

3. Based on some light Internet reading, it appears that 2 cups of coffee a day are less destructive than an equivalent amount of soda. However, I am putting almost one and a half tablespoons of sugar in each cup. I tell myself it is still less destructive than soda, but is it really? Hard to tell....

The (new) apartment part 4 My downstairs neighbour forgot to pay the electricity bill, doh! It ended up with electricity being shut off in the whole house. It's still not back on. I didn't have an immediate backup solution and some of my food is likely to spoil. Hoping this won't affect my finances...

April finances - back on track - April is my birthday month and I was very lucky to get cash from parents and relatives which gave a boost to savings rate putting me at 62%. - Food expenses came in a bit high as I'm building up a freezer storage, I'm hoping to average it out to around 2 000/month. ...

General Systems Thinking (An Introduction to)

Written by Gerald M. Weinberg I think many of you have read it, but I couldn't find a thread on it. This book is unlike anything I expected. It takes time for me to digest and is not an easy read. I'm having trouble applying it to real life examples. I'm about halfway through it. Considering to put ...

As much as I am jealous of you Wood, what absolutely floors me is how you are the least self-absorbed individual I have ever met. (...) I could say the same thing about you after reading your journal. We could make this thread about you if you want. You express being jealous, grossed out and floore...

When Pixels Collide

Fascinating read. I guess one can see similar behaviour in humans, not only in this case or e.g. online computer games with factions/forums being organized, but also in the real world.

Wood, you are completely right and I apologize. I'm admittedly jealous. I mean how can I not be? I'm just some poor schmuck living a pathetic, anonymous life in America, and here you are, the fucking Cary Grant of Uganda. I have to think that you are used to this type of reaction by now and might e...

I am rather curious about how you manage to convince women to bring food over to your house to cook for you? Maybe that's where the charm comes in.
