Re: Cornerman's road to FI

The next big thing will be for me to figure out a way back to a paying job of some sorts, now it's just a internship with revalidation as the main target. Hopefully if all goes well I can work a few more hours and provide a sufficient income. The only thing I need is a new craft if you like. Being ...

Re: Cornerman's road to FI

Another update since it's been a while. In the meantime I found a place to work a few hours a week, which is intense but good. It's nice coming in to work and have a few things to do besides the tasks I make up for myself. It's also nice to meet new people. It's a completely different working enviro...

Re: DutchGirl's journal

400 euro's including utilities a month is very cheap , considering social housing nowadays starts around 650 - max 710 euro's a month without utilities.
Funny how our society works. Hopefully your in laws keep their health. After all that's the most important.

Any luck on the career change ?

Re: DutchGirl's journal

Good luck on the house hunt, it can be a tricky time for buying a house. But coming from a good financial position it can actually save you money at the moment. We ended up moving to a slightly bigger place and now pay less for housing and energy than before.

Re: Let's go Back Home - Frugal chicos journal

Good progress , moving to Spain with a bit of cash is a good idea. Especially if you already have family there. And jogging and running can always be done ;) , even with a bit of "bad" weather. Good luck with everything.

I would not go for the hostel option, work will never stop, all year round and not easy to sell on if you want to change again.

Re: Cornerman's road to FI

Nice to hear everything is moving in the right direction for you. How is your investment strategy of generating a passive income stream doing? It's mainly dividend payments so far which have increased quite well in comparison with last year , I am also moving into a strategy where I am selling opti...

Re: Cornerman's road to FI

An new update , the move to the new house has finished and has paid off. In terms of health and surroundings. It took a lot in energy and time but it was worth it. My energy levels are improving and my concentration is better. I still need my planning a lot but in general all fronts are improving. M...

Re: Taking Online Courses

I did some courses on various platforms. Coursera, edx and recently Kadenze which focusses on the arts side of learning. I use it to get to know the basics of a subject I am interested in and want too learn more about. As I was new too most subjects the courses were quite good actually. Especially t...

Re: DutchGirl's journal

It's a very personal thing, I can understand your boyfriend doesn't want to do it. I started out simply minimizing my debt , and therefore risks when my income should drop significantly. Once I got to a comfortable level with that I was wondering what is more valuable time or money. Turned out it's ...

Re: DutchGirl's journal

Well , it's also a story of declining wages for the average job and rising costs there are so many factors chipping away at our expendable income (and therefore savings capacity) for a lot of people. But in general it's because people over the last 25 years simply spend more and borrow more for ever...

Re: DutchGirl's journal

I wonder if living the frugal way in NL is frequent attitude these days. Dutch people has the 'thrifty ones' opinion, but is it current in XXI century. Do present generation still live this way? I like to read about other countries (history, traditions, people) and found that many Dutch generations...

Re: My form of retirement

Health and time are things you can't control. Having faced some health challenges this year made me realize that anybody can get an illness. It's also been good in the sense that I now know I was on the right path. Having not to worry about finances is good, as worrying is not good while recovering....
