ERE kids?

How are all of you raising your kids? Or how would you? Or how did you? What are your ideas about parenting? Do you try to foster a sense of ERE? If so, how? I had something of a spartan childhood and while it was difficult in many ways, I learned a lot from it and it definitely shaped who I am toda...

Re: Would you give your kids money for college or life?

It's a long way off, but I'm thinking they would work to pay their own way as much as possible and then we would help out with the remainder. I'm not sure if that's unnecessarily mean given that we could probably just pay for everything but I'd like for them to connect to the fact that their educati...

Re: Saving up for your kids college from day 1 VS. just buying them a 1OO % debt free house ?

I think it all boils down to the kid in question and what they would benefit from the most. In general, I doubt many kids would be able to handle the responsibility of a home. I know I wasn't ready at that age, (I'm assuming college freshman). In either case, rather than making the choice myself, I'...

Re: So Good They Can't Ignore You thread?

I read this a while back so I don't remember so much but a few things stuck with me. The underlying message was really good. The framework he laid out made a lot of sense as a way to work towards becoming successful. It has been useful to me as an entrepreneur looking to explore new business opportu...

As a business owner, I think there is no specific talent for business.
There's definitely an element of timing but I think the most important aspect is having character traits that push you to succeed no matter what.

Re: Optimising Income in Pursuit of ERE

I've been thinking about this question a lot actually. My initial thought is: How much do you detest the work? And how does that balance against the compensation? How long would you need to do it for? And then your decision flows from there. In addition to this though, I think it's important to cons...

It's been a year since I last posted. I still don't enjoy writing blogs or texts. I'm trying to participate more in the forum but I get overwhelmed trying to read and understand everyone's perspectives. In general, I don't understand how people have the patience to read pages and pages of a thread, ...

Thanks again DSKla. That made a lot of sense to me. I've been practicing with some interesting and encouraging results so far. DutchGirl: I'm sorry to hear about your sister. Thanks for the details DSKla.
If you don't mind explaining a little further, how do you connect the technique to specific outcomes?

It's going to be a long and challenging journey. And so, beyond the daily details of your meals, your general attitude will make a big difference. Patience, perseverance and curiosity can help a lot. I would suggest trying to make small changes you can effectively integrate into your lifestyle until...

Re: Morally complicated money/relationship question

I don't see this ending well. It sounds like you are trying to fix their issues. It's nice to be supportive, but I think you need to back off and let them figure it out. It's really their relationship and it's up to them to fix it. Or not, and you can decide whether you still want to be a part of th...

Re: Career Advice for a recent college grad

I would do Option 1 as a starting point. It's a great way to gain experience, build skills and be involved in something you like and see a future in. It also seems the most time sensitive as you need to act at a certain time or miss the opportunity. While you are doing option 1, you could also pursu...

Re: Hamstring tightness

You could also try rolling a tennis ball or lacrosse ball or dowel under the sole of your foot. You can press down hard enough that the sensation feels quite strong like a deep massage. This can work to ease some tension in your low back and hamstrings as they are connected by the fascia of the musc...

I agree with your overall thinking about the situation.
I say go for it.
See if you like landlording while you're still young enough to adapt to your lifestyle around it.
It'll only get harder the longer you wait, I think. And good or bad financially, you'll gain a lot of experience from it.

I agree with the many posters who suggest to look at this as a personal decision for your family rather than a questionable strategy to affect world change.

I would say technical because management potentially puts you in contact with more "incompetent" people, both above you and below you. I think that would just further frustrate you. I would also consider a different company entirely as the business culture doesn't seem to suit you. It soun...

It does sound like they don't like you. If that's the case, I would do a couple things. 1. Start looking for another job 2. Do a great job and try to make yourself popular at those other worksites with those clients or co-workers. 3. Document what's going on. 4. Keep biking They'll complain but if t...
