Re: Any ecologists/conservationists on here?

I'll go with MountainFrugal's answer. Around here it's the non native blackberries (2 species, both delicious) and Scotch Broom, not so delicious though I used to eat the seeds sometimes when I was a kid. Like uncooked lentils. And when I look around at our ash trees, I can just about kiss them good...

Everything I do is a one off project. I prefer not to have to fix the same thing twice, at least not in the same way.

Re: Non-native language in a relationship (both sides)

We're both native English speakers but my wife lost her hearing as a teen so I have to use sign language to communicate with her. She can talk fine, she doesn't sign to me unless it's a noisy environment and I can't hear her. Quite frankly I think it sucks. I can't have the conversations with her th...

Oh I like that!

I hunker a lot. Makes me feel primitive, which is what you said too. Also I hate standing. Walking, running, sure. Standing, ugh.

Re: Movement

I really prefer the term hunkering to squatting, but OK. I do it all the time. I hate standing around and I don't care if people look down on me. Also it makes me feel primitive, which I'm not.

I dislike team sports. If I'm going to be part of a group project it's going to be building mountain bike (or trail running) trails, stuff like that.

Re: "Wear it out" promise

One thing to keep in mind here is that a simple textile item like a cotton/poly blend t-shirt isn't much more energy intensive than many other items which are commonly disposed of after single use. Since price is a reasonable proxy for energy intensity, throwing away a $5 t-shirt likely isn't any w...

Re: Western Red Cedar's Journal

I had already decided what species of trees I wanted to plant in a clear cut I had done a few years ago. I had a bunch of scrubby Douglas firs taken out, as they were shading our yard. But the area below them had annoyed me for years, nothing but blackberry briars, since it had been cleared long bef...
