Re: What did you all want to be when you grew up ?

I'd recommend Air Force over Army. The ASVAB scores required to get in the Army are lower, and it really tends to show in bootcamp, making it even less fun for nerdy introverted types.

SpaceX has rocket engineer positions open. I'd like to help them in theory, but most of the careers look over my head. Especially w/o at least a few years of additional education.

I'd recommend being a financially independent aristocrat with plans to inherit at least a small estate. Then you can spend your free time philosophizing and such.

Re: Food / Government Assistance

Do you think it's ethical for the government to redistribute wealth so people can get a discount on 100k electric cars? If so, why not take that redistribution in other, far more helpful forms?

Re: Fixing Washer- The Cheat Code

My error code was useless, but once I realized the problem was that water wasn't leaving at the endo of cycle, I just had to take it apart and check for a clog. When there was no clog, I bought a new drain motor and the problem was fixed. Unfortunately I am nowhere near competent enough to fix an ac...

Chris - UK market isn't nearly as highly valued as the US! Based on historical returns you might very well have 5%. Shiller PE there is half the US (only 13). If yore buying the SP500 though, (if I were in your shoes, based on research I've seen) it would be prudent to move more money to your home c...

I don't have roadside assistance, but my butler is always on standby with the limo in case I get fatigued or need a glass of mineral water. ;-)

Re: 11 Great Reasons to Carry a Big, Long Mortgage

Hard to win when, on average, you're only matching inflation on top of averaging 1%/year in repairs, 2%+/year in property taxes. That's at least 3% out the window before considering inflation and looking for real returns on a non-productive asset...

Re: Climate Change: Fact, Fiction, Something in Between?

I watched a documentary about Global Cooling occurring before the actual warming, because of the warming melting the ice caps. Is this a real possibility? It pops in my head every time someone says "why was this winter so cold? GW is fake!"
