It sounds like Shaq is laying the groundwork for a run for president in 2020.

Re: So Good They Can't Ignore You thread?

I suppose I should say what I liked about Deep Work. The main thing was that I need to train my brain that it's ok to be bored and not to entertain itself with distractions at every opportunity. Seems obvious but it's important to set aside time to work without distractions.

I haven't read it but Deep Work was helpful to me (same author).

Re: The Law Against Social Parasites

You could also be self employed to avoid the tax/fine. This just seems like a natural extension of socialist thought. Unproductive serfs should be punished. How is this an extension of socialist thought? It seems like socialism would be ok with unemployed people getting services without paying taxes...

Re: Best break-up Advice?

Accept that things are going to suck for awhile but also recognize that things will get better with time. It may seem inconceivable now but you will meet someone else. The reddit advice of "hit the gym, lawyer up, delete facebook" is not the worst (lawyer probably not needed in this case t...

Your life right now looks really interesting, thanks for sharing the pics.

It's great you got to see a wolverine though it sounds like the circumstances sucked. Trapping is disgusting and unsportsmanlike.

The link to your blog in your earlier post is broken. You have to put the "http://www." in the link or it won't work. http://www.arcticessays.wordpress.com

I choose to, as best I can, not to think about things like "meaning" and am happier for it. I used to think more like brute and it was rough. I wish you the best of luck with these kind of issues, seriously.

Re: Something From Nothing Log

You know, if you want to, you can ride a bike without the front derailleur working. You can just leave it in whichever ring it's stuck in, or take the derailluer off the bike entirely (you'll have to take the chain apart and put it back together, but I'm assuming you can do that). If you take it of...

You are a savings machine! Great job! I'm very impressed.

Also, I like the "Savings & Expenses" and FAI charts. You are good at capturing more than one piece of information in a chart.

Re: Gilberto de Piento's Journal

Good job although I admittedly don't understand your charts. Thanks! The first chart shows percent saved by month. Divide the amount of money I saved by the amount I earned. The second chart shows my withdrawal rate by month. This is the amount I spent this month multiplied by 12 (to get to yearly ...

Re: Gilberto de Piento's Journal

Awesome! We achieved our lowest spending ever this month as well, and highest savings rate. I'll have an update out this week I think.

Great! Nice job. I give you a lot of credit because you have changed the fundamental structure of your finances rather than playing around at the edges like I am.

Re: Something From Nothing Log

I found a dollar on the ground yesterday. I found a bike taillight (in pieces) in the street earlier this week. I put it back together and it works except that the lens has a crack. I'm going to glue the crack to keep water out and put it on my bike trailer. I would like to return it but I put an ad...

February 2017 Lowest spending ever! SWR under 10%! 10+ years of expenses saved (not counting interest)! :D  The above mentioned low spending and the resulting other stats are in part dependent on random variation. This month was easy because there were no large bills (car insurance, medical ...

Re: Zalo's Journey

Good work making progress on getting a job. Some questions, since I am not in this field and some of the details look unusual to me: 1. How does the profit sharing work? What are you really likely to get out of this. 2. How does the commitment work? You have to work there for three years? 3. They on...

I hate to say this but don't feed the troll. The global warming thread got locked so steveo started this one on a very similar topic so he could continue arguing and posting inaccurate information. He admitted in the old thread that he just likes arguing. I gave him the benefit of the doubt before b...

I can't remember how the ERE book club is supposed to work but here goes. I just finished Sacred Economics which you can read for free at: http://sacred-economics.com/read-online/ The book was long and sometimes slow but it had some interesting ideas: A negative interest rate to keep money in use ra...

Wrapped it up with some simple cotton tape and plugged the bar ends with wine corks from the recycle bin. The bike looks good! I use wine corks too. For anyone else who wants to do cotton tape on a bike and wants it to be even cheaper, look at hockey tape. I haven't done a side by side comparison b...
