Re: Positive and negative goals in a WOG
I read somewhere that Rationals tend to visualize their life linearly. Creating a WOG (collection of vectors) is just doing an extremely good job of visualizing/projecting your life linearly. This forum would probably think it was cool if I made a Power BI report on my lifestyle over the last 59 yea...

Re: Positive and negative goals in a WOG
At the meta level one would also have to consider the positive and negative aspects of performing a WOG analysis, and then the positive and negative aspects of the meta-level consideration, etc. etc. infinite regress. This is why at this juncture in my life, I would seriously consider trading 10 IQ ...

I have a 4 hour block 3 mornings a week called "Spa Day". This time block includes walking the dog, going for a run at the track, strength training, yoga, showering and sun bathing. What a good idea. The concept is flexible enough to include a great many activities. For example, you could...

Much of one's approach to this comes down to whether a home is considered an asset, a liability, an expense (rent, taxes, insurance,...), or an investment(*). Personally, I think of our home as an asset but not an investment. Many or most humans would also imbue the word "home" with emoti...

Re: surprised by change and upredictability
I was browsing a maker magazine the other day and happened upon a model for creativity/innovation described as Imitation-> Modification-> Innovation. It struck me that the term Modification might lend some insight to what is going on at the Coordinating level of the CCCCC Copying-> Comparing-> Compi...

it is not inconceivable that some of the hosts locked themselves in such a money/time sink situations and actually needed a helper more than vice-versa This is always a matter of perspective, skill, goals and cash flow. For example, I could theoretically make use of a full-time general-purpose pers...

In order to relax from being the logistician, you need to first learn how to express your preferences/feelings. Rule of thumb is that it is easier to experience pleasure if you are not the logistician/decision-maker in the moment. That's why decision-makers have a higher pay grade. I recently had an...

Re: Travel across America on Amtrak
I love traveling by train. When I didn't own a car, I even frequently used Amtrak to spend weekend with a BF who lived around 90 minutes away. I've also taken much longer trips, such as Detroit to New Orleans. One time there was a stowaway on the train which was kind of exciting. It's very frequentl...

Re: Are we in a vehicle bubble?
Yes, my best friend in high school drove a red Trans Am and her mother had a pearl pink Cadillac, because they both worked for the family roller rink business. OTOH, you can take standard mileage depreciation on a very inexpensive car, like I did for my business with the Mazda Protege I bought for $...

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think she has come to the conclusion that buying a very basic cabin on the edge of the forest, rather than camping, might be best option given her particular highly renumerated job's need for very good, stable internet connection.

However, "entertaining yourself on your own" is very much something that is not encouraged by pretty much any culture. Hmmm...I can't speak for every culture in general, but it has been my experience that "entertaining myself on my own with small projects" has been very much enc...

@jennypenny: Wow, that's impressive. Do you still have kids at home? Beyond the fact that I theoretically (may have to repossess a property) don't currently own any land, living alone for the first time in my life has seriously collapsed my food production cycle/practice. I think maybe my flavor of ...

Well, I live near the plant where they make them, and I haven't observed that the autoworkers( or the folks who work at the secondary factories supporting the auto industry or the folks who work at The Dollar Tree where they shop. etc.)themselves are driving new cars. So, more likely a sign that you...

Thanks very much for the recommendations. I will pass them along, although I think she is going to ultimately decide that driving out of the woods and "renting" a table at local cafe or nearest McDonalds will be her best option. IME, typing in the woods is not so much fun.

Rural Mobile Internet
I'm trying to help somebody figure out what would currently be the best, least expensive, option for mobile internet connection in very rural location with very poor cellular signal strength? Basically, they will be camping in the middle of a deep forest, but attempting full-time WFH.

and even as a Lord, you now have obligations to your estate. But not as a passive investor. You can be like the plantation owner who lives in Richmond and leaves slave management up to hired overseer, who can blame his behavior on all the primary and tertiary consumers who want cheap cotton. "...

However, much as 99% prefer to be natural slaves and much as 1% prefer to be natural masters, that is no excuse for abuse. Surely, the latter should be somehow compensated monetarily or otherwise for the burden of responsibility of “taking care” of the slaves by creating jobs, taking risks, etc. I'...

Sometimes it's nice to just relax into the mediocrity of going along with someone else's plan/vision for a bit, but nobody really acknowledges this. I totally acknowledge it. Exactly what I do almost every time I go on a date. However, I would note that "strong" practice of submission or ...

being a live-in-girlfriend may be new to the forum, but they're not new to the world Not wanting to quibble over exact level of insignificance, but the novelty would be making use of such a relationship for the purpose(s) of achieving FI and/or conserving natural resources. @jacob: I am saddened that you do not consider my LentilBaby concept to be a creative contribution to the forum. I am surprised that you do not, for example, consider basuragomi's experiments with LenTofu to be a creative contribution to the forum. Seriously, I think there is a relationship between ...
