Re: "What the Health"

I'm just gonna drop this here and see what happens:

What about pets? What are examples of healthy diets for them? Is a WFPB diet good for some pets and not others?

Oo, I found a documentary called Pet Fooled on the subject!

Re: "What the Health"

@sl-owl-orris, I already do WFPB, though I'm not absolute~ ; ) Quarter way through the video. Damn, the arguments against animal products are back to back thus far. Half-way live update: damnnnnn, the scene when he uncovers the sponsors to the major cancer organizations was so intense! 3-quarters in...

Re: "What the Health"

I feel like diet shouldn't be hard. The human body has thrived on all sorts of food. Just make sure it's unprocessed, there's a diversity of it, and it's consumed in adequate quantities. Avoid stress, drink lots of water, sleep well, exercise, and you're done. A tangent, but similar deal with money.

Wow, this is all really complicated. What was that book that MMM suggested on diet? I think it was 10 pages with large font and half-page pictures.

Re: Should I go to a 10 day Vipassana meditation retreat? Or finish prepping for my move/new job?

Sadly the retreat is only offered for 10 days, at least in this center. Sometimes the decision has been made to some degree, sometimes not.

Is the system 1 or 2 terminology from a systems thinking book?

Re: Should I go to a 10 day Vipassana meditation retreat? Or finish prepping for my move/new job?

Tbh, a large part of me is leaning to wanting to chill, go on hikes, explore the city, etc.

10 days of growth is nice and all, but it sounds pretty painful in the moment. I'm afraid that it'll require gargantuan discipline and I won't want to put in the work.

Re: Best books on depression?

Wow, thank you for sharing! I completely agree, depression comes about so different in people. One person I know has tried it all and still feels nothing. For others, they have the occasional bout that can be defeated with positive thinking and a better diet.

Should I go to a 10 day Vipassana meditation retreat? Or finish prepping for my move/new job?

I am scheduled for a 10 day Vipassana meditation retreat with free room and board starting this Wed. This will take me to July 2nd. I have secured an apartment in White Plains, and visited it yesterday. I am now back in MA. I still need to consolidate and pack my stuff into 3 suitcases. I also need ...

Re: Best packable permanent alternative for a matress?

@Brute, how do you clean a thai mattress? For some reason, only "airing it out" doesn't seem to strike confidence in cleanliness.

Also, do you place a sheet over the thai mattress, or sleep on it as is with a sheet over you?

Re: Best books on depression?

@Stahlman: I think I might have morning depression. My motivation during the morning is usually relatively low. It's when I might ruminate about old failures, or want to fall right back to bed. Sometimes when I look back to the morning from the afternoon or evening, I think: "damn, why didn't I get ...

Re: Best packable permanent alternative for a matress?

I use a Japanese futon, it takes some time to get use to but I like it. If this one becomes unusable for some reason I would probably just sleep on the floor - my futon doesnt have much padding to begin with. Do you have a link to the one you got, or something similar? I think a futon makes more se...

Re: JL Collins - The Simple Path to Wealth

@Fish, while all of that is true, I think a good asset allocation including more than TSM would solve a lot of the problems you mentioned. Someone that is indexing could have radical life strategies in case if things do go bad, such as living in a cheaper country, an RV, backpacking for a while, etc...

Best packable permanent alternative for a matress?

I think this has been asked before, but can one of you point me to a sleeping system that is easy to clean and portable? Turns out long and unfoldable mattresses don't fit in cars. This is for my room, so a sleeping bag and pad are out. I was thinking more of a roll up tatami matt. Questions for you...

Re: Best adult push scooter?

Well, the bike I'm thinking of getting is a Salsa Vaya II, which is ~1.2K. I thought about getting a less-nice bike for this reason.

The scooter is handy to have for short-distances, especially in the city.

Tips for driving on the highway with a cargo van?

Moving stuff, moving stuff. Van costs $80 for the day, not bad. Free if I can get a van through AC. The plan is to move the shit to White Plains this weekend, sign the lease in-person, and forward FM's and the SD in person, all while hanging with the land lady. Then I drive my butt back and meditate...

Re: Final Room Selection! Help me choose?

Cool. I chose option 1. I managed to negotiate the price down to $700/mo using #4 as leverage. I also asked for a 6 month lease, so that I can be open to looking for a cheaper/better place during the market lull in Jan-Feb.

Now to get an AC van for free or an Enterprise van for $80.
