Re: ERE1 vs ERE2, forum culture

This post is descending into ad hominem and insensitivity, and frankly if taken seriously could be the kind of body blow that if added up leads to the "we're done" moment. Real question -- is that what you want? The whole forum closed down just so the possibility of ERE2 conversations is ...

That was a really nice post. Thank you!
You've always been a great poster. I think your lifestyle is very different to mine but that's cool.

Re: ERE1 vs ERE2, forum culture

I am looking forward to easing off these meta discussions and getting back to more nuts and bolts discussions and actions around living our EREx lives. I don't care if people want to do ERE2 stuff. I don't know what it means but I don't think anyone on here does at this point. You gotta drill into ...

Re: ERE1 vs ERE2, forum culture

This is true. I don't see any particular difference outside of new concepts and terminology. I almost wonder if this has arisen partially because @jacob, who like many high iq individuals is easily bored and craves new intellectual stimulation (dopamine flushing  ), has gotten bored of ERE 1.0...

Re: ERE1 vs ERE2, forum culture

However, the actual definition of what a cult is requires bit more than "a group of people using words I have to look up". I used the cult word and I'll explain it because it has nothing at all to do with this. The best example I can think of is the use of the Wheaton scale when you can't...

Re: ERE1 vs ERE2, forum culture

I just don't understand what people are so worked up about. If you come across comments in a thread you don't understand or care about, ignore them. If you come across threads you don't understand or care about, ignore them. If you don't like how the forum is being run, used, or the direction it's ...

Re: ERE1 vs ERE2, forum culture

prejudice I'm not sure what the right words to use are but it's completely obvious to me that a bunch of stuff on ERE is cultish. Wheaton levels are the best. Whenever you say something stupid you just say well I'm at Wheaton level 5 and you are only level 1 therefore you don't understand what you ...

Re: Boxing: Would that ever be a good idea?

For some reason rolling on the ground doesn't excite me. It's awesome. So much fun. You'll get destroyed but if you can handle it you'll be a lot better in 6 months time and then a couple years on from that. It's just the learning phase that is so tough. I reckon basketball is a great sport but I l...

Re: Boxing: Would that ever be a good idea?

I'd suggest checking out jiu jitsu. It's an infinite game that you can spar full out with far less risk of injury and very low risk regarding head trauma. I can choke you out a dozen times a day multiple times a week with no health risk. It's fun and it's highly technical. I'm 49 and I've been doin...

What is the point of boxing if you don't spar?
It's a fitness workout. It can be great fun. You won't be able to box though unless you are sparring.

And is sparring worth the price of getting injured?
No.

My question would be if you don't spar, are you really learning boxing?
No.

Re: Boxing: Would that ever be a good idea?

Boxing or any striking art is never a good idea due to head injuries.

Try jiu-jitsu. In my opinion it's the softest of the realistic martial arts. It's great fun as well. I've done Judo which is great as well but it's harder on the body.

Re: Linux - Getting started

I would also recommend Ubuntu as a more accessible version of Linux (have also run it for years). I remember Linus stating that he found it easier to stick with one distribution simply because he found it too hard to change and work out the idiosyncrasies of each distribution. I did try Ubuntu on t...

Re: Linux - Getting started

In my opinion, Windows is worse than Linux. I always tell people that unless they need a Windows PC for gaming, or for some specific application/hardware that only works on Windows, to go with Linux. Especially over the last 10 years or so, Linux has become so much easier for people to use. I agree...

Re: Linux - Getting started

I've been using Linux for years. I used Windows at work when I had a job and I found it a terrible operating system. The issue with Linux is that you have to debug various issues when they come up. I've had some issues that are hard to handle but there is a wealth of information on line. I don't act...

Re: Garden Log

Sometimes people put a fruit tree in a net to protect it. Something to consider. I'm in the midwestern US. We have stinkbugs that are an invasive species but I haven't noticed them causing damage. I bought a net for this year but I haven't used it on my citrus trees so far. I also have figs that th...

Re: Garden Log

I don't think stink bugs have any natural predators. So I assume that chickens don't eat them. They are disgusting. The other day I killed one and it spurted it's stink on my face. It stings as well. It's not that bad but they are pretty gross. https://www.abc.net.au/gardening/how-to/controlling-sti...

Re: Garden Log

I don't know if anyone else has this issue. I have an orange and a lemon tree in a small backyard. The neighbor behind me and to our left both have orange trees as well. These trees get stink bugs and they suck. Last year I just got out there regularly and killed them but they were out of control wh...

Re: Guest post: How I invest

My question is about how you think expertise in one cultural set of knowledge gains one an advantage in learning from another knowledge set outside said culture. This is actually pretty close to the way I took your question. In that specific instance I don't see much if any cross over. There are so...

Re: Guest post: How I invest

@steveo73 I chose Shoalin monk intentionally. Not for martial prowess, but because they were a complete cultural package for centuries. They had a history of resolving problems using tools they developed. They had a hierarchy, resource bases, educational system, etc. So my question is more along th...
