Re: I need recommendations for board games
... and caylus.... How do you deal with AP in a two player game? My GF refuses to play this with me any more because I take forever to take my turns. I'm assuming from my googling you mean analysis paralysis. Surprisingly with my husband we don't have a lot of problems with this in caylus. I tend t...

Re: I need recommendations for board games
Saw the mention of revolution and had to respond to this. My husband and I love evolution and most Steve Jackson games. Since it has obviously been a few years and I'm sure your younger ones have aged into more complicated things I'd recommend some other things like Munchkin (same maker as revolutio...

1. Turkey tacos.
2. Chili or stew
3. Casseroles which last a week. Mostly potatoes though so it makes a good side dish later on.
4. Indian chicken curries with cauliflower sometimes over rice sometimes with naan.
5. Baked chicken and asparagus.

Re: Talk me out of replacing my smartphone
I love my flip phone. I originally got it for work 9 years ago because I couldn't have a camera. I never upgraded it and the camera rule stuck around. When smart phones hit it big most employees left their phones in the car all day but I enjoy the simplicity of not having distractions. I love the lo...

Re: Seasonal and intermittent jobs during semi-ERE
I've done toys r us now for three years for Christmas. Some seasons are better than others it really just depends on how many people quit before Christmas. Usually I can pick up 3-4k doing this at 30 hours a week although other specialties in retail do pay more. I've also done Home Depot in the spri...

Re: Sewing, learning to Sew
If you like doing it then it is definitely worthwhile and a great way to make extra money. Being short knowing how to hem and dart has come in super handy. I also find it fun to make quilts doe extra pillow cases and such. Making my own clothes I don't think I'd try, but making corn hope bean bags o...

Re: What full-time wage do you need to cover current expenses?
Based on Last years calculations I'd need 21.38/hr. (and that's after taxes and savings and such) However once the house is paid off and if i didn't have some medical drama last year I could probably get it closer to 12 or 13/hr after taxes. AS of the start of this year (I start my years in Septembe...

Re: The movie theatre experience
I've been lucky with theaters near me. Growing up we had a theatre that didn't advertise it but would allow outside food in. We use to go get fast food and carry it in without hiding it and eat that instead of concession food. It definitely made it cheaper. The next place I moved had a theatre that ...

Re: The movie theatre experience
Interestingly enough the Martian got me into the theatre for the first time in a long time as well although I have a fairly cheap theatre around me. I've been told that the penny numbers make your brain interpret it as something else. I'm curious to know all the pricing schemes to know if because pe...

Re: Handling street pan-handlers?
Normally I refuse to give out direct cash to anyone unless for some strange reason I have like 50 cents in my pocket or something. I tend to spread the wealth through charities I'm aware of with the cash at random times throughout the year. IN terms of panhandling it's not as common around me and mo...

Re: Prioritizing tax-advantaged accounts over debt paydown
In that case the basic algorithm is indeed correct. I was just inputting the few things i noticed. I assumed there was some rounding involved just not sure how much. For a general algorithm though those are the types of things I would worry about if scaling it to other people. For personal use thoug...

Re: Prioritizing tax-advantaged accounts over debt paydown
Also mathematically the value of money in the future is less than the value of money today so it "appears" you save 2250 cause that's your taxes in the future, but that money could be more comparative to 1500 dollars today in future money (there is a formula for this somewhere based on how...

Re: Prioritizing tax-advantaged accounts over debt paydown
You mention wanting possible mathematical flaws in your analysis. here is the question I have. You say you are currently quadruple paying your mortgage which is great, but that implies you were always already contributing to your 401k too. (I'm assuming but could be wrong here on this next part). If...

Re: Budgetting hassle, need to get some tips
I think "mental accounting" is the most dangerous habit that puts people off track. By that, I mean "not counting" certain expenses because they are "special" in your mind for whatever reason. A couple of examples from above are "its infrequent" or "its ...

Re: Budgetting hassle, need to get some tips
I use a color coded notebook and excel. I basically write down every expense in a composition book which mostly all goes on a rewards credit card. I then bi-monthly highlight color code each expense and input into my budget spreadsheet. The excel sheet has a years budget in it with my mortgage debt ...

Re: Do others Respect you if you don't have a Job and ERE
I quit a job I hated last year in my quest for ERE which is more of a sabbatical. I still have a few more years before I am at FI, but I had plenty saved up for a year or two off with part time work. I faced a few friends who were super jealous who seemed to consider me "lucky" to have thi...

Re: has anyone ever thought of moving to an intentional community?
Twin Oaks in Vieginia is semi close to where I live (four hours away) and I randomly just learned about It today. It seems like the type of place I'd like to go to for a period of time but then want to get out and travel. I like having a plan and I overly worry/obsess over things so having a few thi...

Re: What do juggling, yoga, card games, and acrobatics all have in common? :D
I always found fun party tricks very useful skills to have. During power outages from hurricanes I would learn a new useless party trick. Juggling with glow in the dark golf balls became very useful.... My fun talent though is building houses of playing cards.. I've gotten to the point that I can bu...

Re: Back out of buying rental in HOA?
Also our board recently got a request from a potential buyer... Something you could do is basically say the sale of the home is pending their rental approval... I doubt they'd approve the request, but it is always worth a shot.

Re: Back out of buying rental in HOA?
As a member of my condo community HOA I would say don't do it. Rental caps are a big deal where I am because it is to keep FHA approval as well as keep the neighborhood seemingly nice with owners who care about longevity of the community. In our community we have a 10% cap on rentals and every area ...
