Re: Dividends over 4% rule

I own a lot of the crappy value trap stuff that Jacob was talking about. (T/VZ/MO/BTI/Utilities/NLY). While it is true these companies don’t really grow they are a cash machine - until they aren’t. I balance this out by taking risk with positions in growth stocks (NIO in a $4, PLTR in at $15) At th...

Re: Dividends over 4% rule

Thanks for the replies guys. The crypto portion was really just meant to represent the current speculative plays of the time. Right now that means crypto. I think it will mean crypto through at least 2025. Who knows after that. When I first tested this it was before the market had fully recovered, s...

Dividends over 4% rule

I haven't been on in a while mostly because the extreme side of things just didn't pan out for me, but you guys are still the smartest group I've talked with so I thought maybe someone could help me out with something. I've been thinking a lot about investments and the 4% rule, and I just can't wrap...

Re: How to hang a painting without a stud-finder?

I'm always more worried about my voltage tester :-P

It depends on how old the house is. Very old houses tend to have a slight outward bend in the wall where the stud is.

Re: Kiss & Don't Tell: explaining any unconventionality in our lives?

I don't explain myself to others. I am who I am. If someone has a problem with my life they are welcome to move on with theirs. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about who you are. I don't understand how your relationship style works btw, but everybody is different. We each have to do what works fo...

Re: Trump - Clown Genius

These judges are supposed to be unbiased, but that seems to be another fleeting memory. Blaming powerful people (rich, party positions, etc.) is a cop out. I'm not suggesting they aren't a problem, but the whole or even main problem? Probably not. So, no, I do not think we would be better with a de...

Re: Trump - Clown Genius

I have to agree with apocraphyl. I've been saying for a while now that we don't need to run every decision through a bunch of rich representatives who don't care about any of us. We have the internet, and we could easily vote using the internet. All we would really need is multiple 3rd party sources...

Re: Balancing Income Diversification with Asset Allocation

I think diversifying your income is a great idea, but as others have said you have to watch for correlation. P2P and stocks are definitely correlated. Rentals have some correlation, but it's far less. In the case of a major crash we're all temporarily screwed anyways, so it's nice to have some cash ...

That's my latest project. I still need to clean up the paint bleeding through that worthless painter's tape, and add in the inner square of trim just inside the front.

Re: Average net worth of Americans -- this is a joke, right?

I've never liked the idea of including your home in any calculation. Whether I own 3% or 100% it's not something I have any interest in selling. Without including pensions/SS in the number you're really just using skewed data. As we all know a $3000/mo pension figured over 30 years is $1,000,000. I ...

I think the Republic Wireless $10 plan is the best plan money can buy personally (I wish there was a $15 plan with 500mb of data though). My wife is on the $25 plan, but we'll likely both be on the $10 plan by the end of the year.

Re: What is the most important thing in a long term relationship / marriage?

I'm amazed the word 'love' has not appeared once in this thread! But re: the question, I think the answer is going to be different for each couple, and may also be different at different times of the relationship for any particular couple. The two members of the couple might even have fairly differ...

Re: What is the most important thing in a long term relationship / marriage?

Selflessness is probably most important. I can't think of a single divorce I've seen (and I live with a divorce attorney) that wasn't caused by one or both partners being more concerned with themselves and their own wants/needs than with their spouse and the state of their marriage. It's the same i...

I just couldn't bring myself to read this book, so I won't comment on the book itself. Jenny, you shouldn't worry about comparing your suffering with the suffering of others. Each and every situation is different. You can only base your responses on your own suffering, and while his suffering was su...

Resveratrol is in red wine and dark chocolate.

Orange juice certainly tastes good though :)

My vice is worse than all of these. I'm still trying to kick my soda habit.

None of you cheapskates would pay to join lol. I can see the responses now. "Why would I pay for frugaldate.com? That's not very DIY, plus that $9.99 will compound into $1250 by the time I retire."

Re: Loosening ethics for faster ERE--does the end justify the means?

Right now we need that fuel I really disagree with the above statement. If everyone took on the lifestyle that is continually advocated for on this board (live near work, walk or bike, drive an efficient car, don't waste resources, grow your own food, don't buy goods that don't last, etc.) the amou...

Re: Loosening ethics for faster ERE--does the end justify the means?

I agree on the pollution aspect for sure. Right now we need that fuel, but an alternative would be great.

I agree on the unethical part as well. I won't do something that I find unethical.
