Re: m741's ERE Journal
I don't use any apps right now but I think it would make sense to and it seems pretty feature-rich. TBH I don't use the app either. I wouldn't carry a phone running even if I had a smart one. Some people carry phones for listening to stuff anyway, it might be convenient in that case. I have a ...

Re: m741's ERE Journal
Good luck with the 45:00 10K goal. I share this one with you, been "almost there" for six years now:) It hasn't been for lack of ability, I just haven't been consistent enough with speed training. Endomondo is a great app/site to keep track of progress if you need one. I also think running and ...

@cimorene12 Thanks for the subtitle tip. Even with the context there, spoken Danish is hard on the brain:) It was a well made and positive piece. Compared to Jacob, the local Danish participants were not very specific about their financials. It would have been interesting in comparison to all the US ...

[1] As soon as you've chosen, you will feel bad because you secretly hoped for something else. Now go with that instead. Or as told more elegantly by a compatriot of yours and Jacob's Whenever you're called on to make up your mind, and you're hampered by not having any, the best way to solve the ...

Re: Lending Club Sadness
I'm quoting myself from rube's journal a few years ago: My returns (actual realised, XIRR, annualised) have hovered between 20 and 22%. I'm surprised by how stable it's been, but I have every expectation that as my portfolio and the whole platform becomes more mature, the returns will go down. I ...

MSB recently issued a booklet intended to prepare the population for a crisis. Holding cash in small denominations was a part of the recommendations:)

Do you mind sharing the finish time of your full marathon in June? I remember from earlier we were pretty close in our ambitions, would be interesting to see how you've done. Also, did you continue your running regimen after completing the marathon? I've noticed (in myself and others) that crossing ...

Re: Let's talk about the Fire Service
We don't want to use them for firefighting because they aren't protected or trained, but sometimes they will help you carry things such as hose or extrication tools. But we really don't want untrained people involved for too long, especially with real hazards. How about forest fires? This summer ...

Re: Let's talk about the Fire Service
We follow the Incident Command System /.../ Somebody is always in charge of the scene and command is transferred seamlessly as more personnel show up that are trained to run an emergency situation. /.../ Hope that clears up some of what you asked. It does and it makes sense, thank you for the ...

Re: Let's talk about the Fire Service
What about command structure - when several brigades respond to an event, how does it get determined who is in charge? First on scene? What about when it's a "complex event" with different kinds of responders, eg a shooter in a burning building or a train crash with multiple victims?

Haha, you could have just replied "I have my own air pack and a garden hose" and looked way cooler:)
Are smoke and/or CO detectors mandatory in the US?
Do fire brigades make preventive home visits, for example where social workers or someone else have alerted of a serious fire hazard?

Re: Let's talk about the Fire Service
@ffj - thank you for the detailed responses (to my questions and others). The problems with the public's expectations sound familiar. Here, the average arrival time for a professional brigade on scene is a little under 9 minutes (there is a lot of variation in a sparsely populated country with a few ...

Re: Let's talk about the Fire Service
I have some questions too. Feel free to get to them whenever you feel like it or leave them hanging. 1. I understand the fire departments in the US are normally tied to municipal or county governments. How is response across borders arranged if/when needed? Is responding to a fire in a neighbouring ...
