Re: Electric self driving vehicles

As you say, the technology is here. Adoption of technology, however, requires time to adjust social patterns, to sort out the niceties. I don't expect it to solve traffic problems... people wanting instant gratification are not going to wait for their ride to arrive anymore than they're willing to w...

If you had the chance to drive the train or plane instead of merely being a passenger, which role would you REALLY choose for a trip?

Verizon buying Yahoo is complete now and Marissa Mayer has resigned. Stock price is down something like 13% since Jan 1 if you're shopping. Here are some notes I've pulled from the Reuters article: Verizon, the No. 1 U.S. wireless operator, is combining Yahoo with AOL, which it bought two years ago,...

@George, not to co-opt the thread.. but what is it about the Oregon/north CA coast that resulted in no big cities? Suggest some reading for me? I know the winters are bad.. Transportation in rugged terrain is the simple answer. Railroads didn't get put through to the coast until after 1900 for the ...

- For animal proteins, we usually buy chicken thighs (the ones that come with skin and bones, they are at $0.69/lb) Dang it, our local prices just don't get that low! Too far away on the supply line. Not even at Aldi? Aldi rocks here! I must say, it is contributing we are speeding up the achiviemen...

Become friends with an attractive woman at work or one of your other activities. Make it clear to said woman you are single and looking.
+1. And never be afraid of where it might lead you.

Re: Trump - Clown Genius

Ideally a guy like Trump would surround him self with thinkers and philosophizers and politickers so he could better chart his actions. Unfortunately that does not appear to be the case. Bullies never surround themselves with thinkers and philosophizers. They're not interested in charting their act...

I wonder what these people will do when their situation continues to deteriorate and their savior can't save them with any of the aforementioned policies (or otherwise)?

Taking advantage of deductibles (medical expenses, mortgage) and give-aways (Obamacare)? Biggest problem is that available options are likely to change if you have decades to live before reaching age 59.5. Having money in a Roth is a good emergency stash, withdrawing your contributions tax free in c...

If your current partner adds stress rather than removes it, then it's time to be single, regardless of the economics. Fortunately I chose the right partner and the economics are working out.

We have volunteer potatoes all over the place. I'm gradually learning to remove them unless they come up early and are particularly vigorous. Usually they're started by the tiniest of tubers, the ones you either thought too small to bother with or missed entirely. One small stretch of my volunteers...
