Re: BC #12: "Man's Search For Meaning" by Viktor Frankl

You're reading the best books. I loved Frankl ten years ago so much, but now I disagree with him on many of the details. If you're interested in how and why people construct meaning, Coming to Narrative is a great book. I also appreciated The Art and Science of Narrative Psychiatry for mucking aroun...

Re: Riparian's Journal

So my semi-ERE income has stabilized a little. Low estimates are: $500+ from books $300+ from other writing $300+ from research Hopefully very soon that cabin will be rented. Sinking money in it now to make it more attractive to renters, and gonna put it off and just pay someone to finish the other ...

Re: How to live out of a suitcase & pack one efficiently?

I'm travelling like this now and here's my list: 1 each jeans, shorts, leggings, merino long underwear 2 short fun dresses for camping, hitchiking, playing in the woods 1 grown up dress 1 hoodie (wish it had a zipper but it doesn't) 2 t shirts 1 tank top socks and underwear All those things go in ga...

Re: Near Zero Expenses

OldPro, what I did was to lower my expenses to $300-500/m and develop passive income of $600-2000/m and optional freelance work. I don't have huge savings or anything, but I consider myself very semi-ERE.

Dave! Run away! Be free!

I mean, not really. Obviously we value different things. But .5%? Can I be your progeny and inherent your fortune?

Re: Should I go to law school in a big city?

Jacob, one can do DIY law for one's self. I already do that, when needed. SimpleLife, I do have a "noble goal" lawsuit or two similar to that (but of course, in my mind, more noble). I'd also like to be more effective in helping my associates when the state fucks with them, which is someth...

Re: Should I go to law school in a big city?

I would like to Learn The Things. If I learned them, there are some things I'd like to do with them. I don't want a job or need credentials. My life is more than okay without the degree. It would be like a bonus, I guess. But I'm not sure to what extent one realistically can practice a little bit of...

Should I go to law school in a big city?

I'm thinking about applying to go to law school in Washington DC and I want all your advices. Especially about one or all of these things: 1) Living in Washington DC. I think I might be able to get the school part to be mostly free, but the living part, holy crap. Also I'm afraid of driving in the b...

Re: tell me to stop spending money

Defended my thesis, passed, stopped spending so much.

But I am still having some fancy coffees and some meals out. Even if I spent $600/month on having a sort of fancy eating life while living in a truck, that is still way less than what people pay for rent around here, much less rent and food.

Re: Riparian's Journal

Quick update: Somehow I made $2k last month from writing. Travelling and pursuing my passions - living for free in my truck and splurging a little on eating out, but maintaining an okay savings rate. Defended my thesis, passed. Saw whales yesterday. Talked to politicians today. Trying to change the ...

Re: tell me to stop spending money

Hey y'all! Thesis break. I've decided you're right, I'm just gonna go with this for now because the thing is almost done! So, I'm at the grocery deli, I had a gigantic salad from the salad bar and a chicken breast, which is pretty much all I need for the day. But I've been here for like 4 hours now,...

Re: tell me to stop spending money

What i would try to do. At 6pm, leave your workplace (library or office if you have one) Cook a huge 2000Cal meal mostly from rice and bean. Eat it over the next few hours while relaxing. Go to sleep. Wake up. Go to the library. Feel the hunger around noon, but don't eat.(that's the hard part) Repe...

Yes, but limited hours, and also it's a ways out of town, so a gas expense.

Alright, that settles it. Nachos and margaritas for dinner! LOL

GandK, we've hardly even had winter here! It's in the 40's and raining. The arctic vortex is drunk, so y'all have winter and we don't. :(

I'm not gonna, like, get a job after I finish my degree.
