Re: Walking as Transportation

Good job on getting out there! The half a mile used to seem like forever, but now I don't even think about it! Get good shoes. You don't outfit the footmobile in flipflops any more than you leave flat tires on your bike or car. I wear the ladies version (meaning an oxford shoe, not a postman shoe, w...

Re: Online grocery shopping?

Amazon is not yet cheap enough for me to buy dry goods (at least the things I want to buy). When I do buy household stuff from them, it's usually a few dollars cheaper to go to the store myself, but I pay the premium to save me the time and hassle of going. I also enjoy the novelty of receiving 40lb...

Re: Ultimate mouse

We have deployed thousands of mice at work and most people get the generic Microsoft mouse. The people who want something else usually ask due to pain or having exceptionally large or small hands or they have a desire to use the programmable keys on the mouse. I consider mice for laptops a different...

Re: DIY contact cleaner?

How small are the contacts? We had a special tool when I cleaned relay contacts, no spray or anything. (It was like metal sandpaper.) If that is what you are looking for, I will find out where I got it.

Re: Walking as Transportation

I agree with @jacob. At first it seemed like forever to walk half a mile to work. Now it's a short jaunt and I hardly notice. It's nice to zone out too. Solutions to problems sometimes just pop into my head. I doubt I that would happen if I was listening to a podcast or something.

Re: Walking as Transportation

I walk primarily for transportation. My work is about a mile from where I live, and I walk to and from work 2x day. (I go home for lunch, woo!) Some days I walk to the store and haul groceries home too. This adds another mile and the additional weight of the groceries. My range of distance for walki...

Re: A Good Pressure Cooker Here?

I want that one too, mostly because it does yogurt without the annoying parts I hate and I can get rid of my slow cooker AND have a pressure cooker all in one. I have not pulled the trigger yet and I have been looking at it for months.

Also, the pressure is not as high as a stove top model.

Re: lilac's journal

I will try to be positive, but I'm pretty sure this may be the straw that breaks the camel's back. I think we are headed to the big D. My dad is also in the midst of a heath scare (we don't know what's up until he sees the doctor). And my damn shoe has a hole in it to top it off. :P I joke, but real...

I will have to try this. My grandma tells me to use half white and half whole wheat flour to make whole wheat bread.

Re: lilac's journal

So my husband got laid off today. This is why I need to work for another ten years. No sense saving only half of the expenses, especially when there is a kid involved.

Re: lilac's journal

Thanks @jennypenny! Today is Day 730. It was supposed to be 2 years until I am done, but now it is just some number I'm using to watch the time go by with a land among the stars mentality. It's been four months since we split up all our money, and I'm done paying off my half of the debt we had taken...

Re: lilac's journal

Day 745 - Finished the timed C25k program - ran 3.6k in 35 min or 6.2km/hr. This is a trot and I know I can probably walk faster when I'm in a rush, but it is what it is! 15 years in the making, I'll take it!!! And I'm going to buy myself some new running shoes as I bought the shoes I'm using when I...

Re: Gen Z (The Cell Phone Zombies)

@jacob - I am obviously hanging out in the wrong area. Next time I'm downtown I will pay more attention. Or I'll start counting people texting and driving while I'm walking.

BTW, did the elbow tagger even notice???

Re: Gen Z (The Cell Phone Zombies)

@jacob - We do not seem to have that problem in the Chicago of the north. Maybe I am not looking in the right spots? Or maybe it is -40 and I'm the only pedestrian out there? I'm going to be watching more now. That being said, I have never been bumped into or knocked over. (Yet?) I have only noticed...

Re: Gen Z (The Cell Phone Zombies)

@jennypenny - I will text you! ;) I guess I could be called a zombie too. I am 34 and straddle two worlds. I think people ten years older than me are being curmudgeonly when they say that adding an online messaging service to our corporation is useless and stupid. And I don't get the kids ten years ...

Re: lilac's journal

Day 751 - I'm thinking the finish line is more of a "What can I do in 1000 days" instead of "FI in 1000 days". Splitting up the money has settled out now. I find I have lots left over and will be having trouble finding ways of hiding it from the tax man by the end of the summer. ...

Re: How do you get back on the merry-go-round?

Nope, that thing is just too sweet to go back. I have not bought a shiny from the electronic store in well over two years, so I'm not feeling too bad about it. Plus I split the cost with the other half and he is a movie guy so he really enjoys the TV. We do have netflix. I don't know if you can get ...

Re: How do you get back on the merry-go-round?

Hello again! So I will admit, the TV was an impulse purchase and a somewhat ridiculous one at that since we don't have cable or a DVD player. But is is shiny and beautiful and if I play a beach scene with the heat cranked and the windows closed, I can pretend it's not -30 outside! So it's art ...
