Re: European Union

I'd say healthcare as it is perceived by individuals in the EU varies a lot. Healthcare as measured on a country level is very good in western/northern Europe, and good in the rest (e.g. Greece has funding problems). Most healthcare funding problems arise with long term care, usually not emergency c...

Re: Two-step verification

Nowadays, two-factor (not two-step) is often a joke, as people access websites by smartphone, and get the access token texted to the same phone.

That said, two-factor delivers better security for some scenarios, like people stealing your email password.

Re: Where are the failure-stories?

@fib41 Ha, I might be failure on your criteria 1 - 3. But I made different choices than jacob, not accumulating before ERE, but earning during ERE. Some others made this choice to. Maybe call it non-traditional ERE?

@whatlifecouldbe How is your planning progressing?
We had a good meetup last weekend in NL, but hearing from your experience would be great.

Re: Meetup in the Netherlands

The meetup last Saturday went ahead. This meeting was a bit different from the first one. What did we do? - getting to know each other. That was rather interesting to me, because the real world background of some was very different, and at the same time had many similarities. - group discussion, mix...

Re: Soliciting suggestions for new ERE blog theme

For simplicity of admin, the twenty-* themes are very good. They are developed by WordPress itself and kept updated with (security) patches for a long time. It is also quite easy to develop a "child-theme" (WP term) to tweak the user interface just a little bit. If you want, I can try to help with t...

Re: Meetup in the Netherlands

Hi,

@Ayanka , Wageningen is easily reached by train from Amsterdam and Rotterdam in about an hour (actually the geographic midpoint of NL is quite close to Wageningen).

We can also move to another place, if that cuts down journey times.

@Did : By commodity I meant it is readily available widely for a predictable cost.

To take your bread example: White bread is a commodity, but artisan hand made gluten free French rye bread commands a high price.

It is the similar with apps.

Re: Best mobile app development tool?

I'd say there is no "best" tool. App development is a commodity now.
Also the tools are changing all the time, for example now the following toolchain is "hot" https://blog.twitter.com/2017/how-we-built-twitter-lite .

The tmba guys have a podcast, which has some fantastic interviews. Their writing is less developed, and from a comprehension...

TMBA and ERE etc

There is a post at http://www.tropicalmba.com/the-cult-of-early-retirement-meets-or-strangely-doesnt-meet-the-cult-of-entrepreneurship/ , discussing MMM and a bit of ERE. Reading it was interesting for me, because I took the same path: saving for a couple of years, and then working in/on entrepreneu...

Re: So Good They Can't Ignore You thread?

In the experience I have from working at universities in the EU, it is totally different: You get an offer for a Phd. or Postdoc. It's for a fixed period, and then you must go, because otherwise the university has to offer you a permanent position. It doesn't matter if you performed stellar. You sti...

Re: One Million in the Bank

One Million is more of a general introduction than a specific business practice book. The thing is: Most business advice is wrong (because it applies to a different business than yours). For example, some books advise on hiring early on. Others advise going alone. Which one is right? That depends on...

Did read the book. Probably good if you want to start a business and read it as an introduction and to set your mindset. If you have some business experience, or are more online oriented, the book has less value. I'd rather recommend to read before starting a business: - Jake Desyllas "Becoming and ...
