Re: FI-ddle's Journal
@ Egg, thanks for the comments. Our house is about 1/2 the national average also! In the future the only catalyst for us to take on a mortgage again would be to relocate near a better school for the children. Even then, I'd like to avoid a mortgage and use savings, if possible. A quick update. Work ...

Re: FI-ddle's Journal
An update. Job/work - Over the past year and a half things have really changed on this front. All for the better. Since deciding to semi retire some years back I have leisurely tried out a few different seasonal and part time roles. Including working on a campsite and delivering parcels at Christmas...

It's quite funny really. The smallest people in our family seem to have the most stuff too, by a long way and they've never bought anything or asked for much. They seem to be stuff magnets!

Hey Egg,
Sounds like you've got some ideas to help you during the next few months.
Good luck and go easy on yourself.

Re: Egg's journal (or "Dude, Where's my Job")
Sounds good either way you go Egg. If you stay they'll be a bit more careful towards you regarding workload and general treatment I imagine as they know you're not afraid to hit the eject button. If you leave, you'll have the time to be present with your young family without the stresses of demandin...

Re: Kids are time drainers
If you can get external support you probably should and as this seems to hinge on winning over you partner, maybe listen in for where her reservations are coming from and tackle them. Otherwise I think you need to push back and try to ring fence your time more. If that doesn't work welcome to my wor...

Re: Burnout
Tbf I think alot comes down to the work that is being done and the expectations of others and yourself on your output. I had burn out after several years and took some time out semi ERE style. After a few years I returned to the previous work in a lower paying role with alot less responsibility and ...

Re: Emigration
Born and raised in England but I took the chance some years ago to work in Australia and through that process managed to get Australian citizenship. Took 5yrs+ in total and the initial work visa was attached to a role in a specific company. Wasn't a walk in the park as the company I worked for knew ...

Re: Should I stay or should I go?
If you feel like you've had enough of nursing and know 12k is what you need to meet your needs, I think you're in a strong position. When I needed a change i implemented a semi ere plan. Taking several months off a year but I worked 8-12 hrs pw during the summer at a local campsite for £10ph and for...

Re: akratic's ERE journal
Hey Akratic, just chiming in here as I've 3 children similar ages as yours. I find having a pull up bar in the door way of my utility room helps, no matter what is happening I can slip away a minute several times a day and feel better doing pull ups getting stronger and see the improvement. I went p...

Re: Pulled The Trigger
I stopped working fulltime when I was 35yrs old. I had a house paid off and about 40k in savings. Since then I've taken a variety of part time and seasonal roles with a lot of time off.

Re: How much do you give to charity?
Over the years I've probably donated maybe 3- 5% of my income to charities, usually on a monthly direct debit. I particularly like this when they're a membership organisation that lobby government or confront unethical corporations, so the organisation can add one more to the people power side of th...

Re: Part-time for life?
Since pulling the trigger on my own semi ERE 3and a half years ago I have worked in a several different part time jobs and a couple of full time short term contract jobs. However I have not been employed for at least half the past 3.5 yes. Which has allowed alot of time with family, doing up my hous...
