Re: Dividend Investing For Retirement

Income doesn't really mater if we don't need it yet. Before I pull the trigger, I try to maximize ROI, emphasize on total return. Dividends come from the businesses profit. The total return still depends on the business ROI. As I approach retirement, I would convert some investment to income for liv...

Re: SWR

@ToFi: how would this strategy perform in long term bear markets? In the long term, the stock price follows business net worth and earning power. If you find a basket of high quality businesses earning 15% to 20% ROI, the long terms stock performances will be close to 15% to 20%. Of course, the hig...

Re: SWR

My target return is 15 to 20% per year. YTD return is 30%. That's pretty awesome, 10% alpha. 15 to 20% per year is generated from Charlie Munger style buy and sit on ass. I got lucky with a few value play this year. It added about 10%.. They show up more often than we think. Sometimes, it's as simp...

Re: Bubble?

I can afford to time an individual stock but can't afford to time the whole market.
I am wrong on one stock. I am only wrong for a small amount of capital. If I am wrong about the whole thing, I miss everything. I like to buy a basket of the best businesses and hold them as long as possible.

Re: Money is power. Never forget that.

The biggest power money has: to buy us self reliance.
Money can also buy some happiness. Many people hates the job they have. The day they hate most is Monday. If they have money, they'll have the choice to choose a happier job or shall I say work regardless of the pay.

Don't you see I am here to make fun of SWR? SWR came from academia right? Lots of idea from academia are not practical in real life. SWR

If I understand correctly, the 4% SWR is based on the historical return of S&P of 9.77% over the past 100 years or so. What if I can achieve double of that return in the long term? Let's say it's 20% annualized, does it mean my SWR can be 8%? :geek:

So he talks about purpose in life.

Show your face every week day for 8 hours and do 1 hour of work has no purpose whatsoever.

Having lots of freetime to persuit spirituality, charity, creativity etc has more meaning than that.

Capitalism is not perfect but it's the best system to maximize productivity by using profit motivation and economy of scale. Having 10% of 1000 is better than having 50% of 100,just saying.
